Tanterra Drainageway Preservation

Tanterra is a master planned community in Parker, Colorado with magnificent sweeping views on 1,200 acres of beautiful rolling terrain. To maintain the innate beauty of the property, PCS Group partnered with Muller to preserve the naturally sloping land, existing drainageways, native habitats, and natural flow patterns. By applying the dendritic design approach to storm water management, the natural drainage corridors were preserved, to the greatest extent possible, and minimized the amount of storm pipe used in the project. This conservation effort became the foundation of the inspiration for the overall landscape design of the community and will provide a unique amenity to Tanterra residents.

A 10’ wide community trail traverses along the drainageways and detention basins throughout the community, with 2’ gravel paths feeding off the main trail to allow opportunities to cross and interact with the natural waterways. Steppingstones, as well as pedestrian bridges, at intermittent crossing points encourage pedestrian crossing, while larger stone steps lead down into the basin inviting connection to and interaction with the environment. Playgrounds have been strategically placed at higher elevations throughout the community allowing views of drainage corridors and overlooks located along the trails provide areas of respite in the natural habitat created within the drainage environment.
